Pro Tip: To replace weather strip: Pull the old weather strip from the saw kerf in a downward motion (DO NOT pull out towards you as pieces of the weather strip may get stuck in the kerf and you will then have to dig it out with a screw driver or thin putty knife). Cut the new weather strip to the length and push the leg of the weather strip back into the saw kerf. Press the remainder of the weather strip back into the kerf of the frame using your fingers.
Window and Door Weather Strip Seals are an maintenance item. You should replace your weather strip every 10-15 years depending on your climate and weather conditions of the area you live in so windows and doors seal properly. Any weather strip that is hard, brittle or compressed and not sealing the window it should be replaced. Over time, use and exposure to sun and weather can do this to the weather strip- it’s maintenance item that should be replaced when worn (like breaks on a car).
